“My extraordinary 36 hours swimming ‘as one’ with a shark”

When Ultra-athlete Ross Edgley began a world record attempt to swim around Great Britain, he knew his body would face all kinds of challenges, but he never expected to swim side by side with an 11 metre long shark. Ross was shadowed by the huge basking shark, an encounter he says he will never forget.

But far from the picture the film Jaws painted, Ross says he spent 36 hours alongside a gentle giant. Ross finished his swim with a world record, but discovered a fascination for the ‘ultimate ocean athlete’. Ross, who’s trained Hollywood action stars, features in a new documentary that puts his superhuman body to the test in a series of challenges against the sea’s ultimate athlete, the shark.
