Disney-backed National Geographic Channel has announced new content for its annual Sharkfest strand, including Shark Beach with Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast.
Produced by Jane Root’s transatlantic prodco Nutopia, the 1×60’ special sees actor Mackie (The Falcon & the Winter Soldier) navigating the waters of his hometown in New Orleans with leading scientists to explore the future of regional shark conservation.
Meanwhile, Shark Vs Ross Edgley, produced by UK-based Big Wave Productions, sees British ultra-marathon sea swimmer Ross Edgley take on four shark-inspired challenges, including a polaris jump out of the water like a great white shark.
Other content includes social media-themed Sharks Gone Viral (Painless Television), tiger shark special Supersized Sharks (Big Wave Productions), Baby Sharks in the City (Passion Planet), eight-part VFX-laden series Shark Attack 360 (Arrow Media) and Attack of the Red Sea Sharks (Windfall Films).
Beginning on June 30 and running for four weeks, Sharkfest programming season will screen across multiple platforms on Nat Geo, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundu and ESPN2. On July 1, the strand will also stream on Disney+ and Hulu
